MISSION STATEMENT

The Gokhale Education Society is committed to the cause of students empowerment through access to education at all levels. Particularly higher education to have world class citizenship through relevant courses under formal and non -formal steams. Further the Society is committed to raise the dignity of teaching profession and to establish a culture of caring and excellence by providing a wide range of Professional and Vocational courses for poor and downtrodden as also for the tribals and backwards to meet the changing socio economic needs with human values Social responsibility and achieve Excellence with total quality in all activities of life long learning.

HISTORY AND ACCOUNT OF DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIETY

The Gokhale Education Society (Est.19-02-1918) on the third death anniversary of late Gopal Krushna Gokhale , Guru of Mahatma Gandhi, by late Prin. T.A. Kulkarni, the Founder of the Society, a great social worker and a disciple of Namdar Gopal Krushna Gokhale commenced its working from June 1918 when Prin. T. A. Kulkarni handed over his proprietary school to the newly formed Society, later named as Gokhale Education Society's DGT High School, Girgaon, Mumbai because of the munificent donation received from the house of Thakkarsis because of the efforts of the founder trustee late Hansraj Pragji Thakkarsi. The Hansraj Thakkarsi Trust also donated Rs. 2.40 lakhs for starting a college at Nasik in 1924 named then as HPT Arts College . Today the Society functions through 15 centers spread over three Zones Nasik, Mumbai and Thane with its Head Office at Prin. T.A. Kulkarni Vidyanagar, Nasik-5 and registered office at Acharya Donde Vidyanagar, Parel, Mumbai-12. The core objective of the Society is to impart education and training for building up ideal quality citizens and to raise the status and dignity of teaching profession. Today the Society has about 1 lakh students getting instructions at all levels (KG to PG and doctoral research) and the Society is known for academic excellence, professional competence and social image. It has emerged as a lead and quality educational institute in India as reflected in performance of students at SSC, HSC University Examinations. The Society has today

• 21 High Schools.
• 12 Junior Colleges.
• 15 Senior Colleges.
• 6 Post Graduate Centres.
• 4 Research Institutions.
• 22 Pre Primary and Primary Units and
• 10 Agricultural and other Centres.

The Society was first to start centre of Higher Learning at Nasik as early as in 1924 (this was first mofussil college in the then Bombay presidency) and the Society was first to start a full- fledged Post Graduate MBA Programme, first of its type in India at Nasik in June 1968 through its JDC Bytco Institute of management Studies & Research which Institute has today become a centre of excellence and management education. This Institute is selected as host Institute by SASTAC, Sweden for preparing Vision Document 2025 for Upper Godavari Project under Global Water Partnership. It was because of this institute that the 44^th International Conference held at University of Twente, under the Chairmanship of President, Ireland University, Netherlands, that a certificate has been awarded stating Model Developed by Gokhale Education Society's BYK College of Commerce and JDC Bytco Institute of Management Studies and Research, Nasik for Making higher Business Education Entrepreneurial can be emulated world over "For making Higher Education Entrepreneurial- Self Employment Oriented."

At Bordi the Society has setup first Agricultural School for tribals under the leadership of Acharya Bhise, Prin. Atmarampant Save and Chitre Guruji and Society was first to start Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Kosbad as early as in 1976.
